Dr. Milhar Addressed IMLA 22nd

Mr. Milhar Fuazudeen, the head of Maritime Training and Human Element Section, Maritime Safety Division of IMO delivered a keynote speech in the 22nd International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) Conference at Jimei university China from October 10-13, 2014.

He expressed the appreciation for IMLA’s commitment to a wide range of issues relating Maritime Education and Training (MET) for so many years on behalf of IMO. The conference, in his eyes was actually a platform and window for maritime lectures and teachers to exchange information and ideas on how to effectively improve MET. He fed the audience with first-hand information on the aims of 1995 revision of STCW, 1978 through his personal and private experience. He touched on new and sensitive issues like Leadership and management skills and offered his opinions on Effective Communications and Maritime English, in which he believed that maritime English competence build-up was paramount to effective communication.

His reading-between-the-lines of STCW fascinated all the participants in the conference and gave them a chance to get closer to the true understanding of human element in maritime safety.
