International Maritime University
2014-3-3

The first session of the IMO Subcommittee of Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW 1) was held from 17 to 22 February 2014 in London of the United Kingdom under the Chairmanship of Mr. Bradley Groves.

The IMLA delegation consisting of Associate Professor Clive Cole (World Maritime University), Professor Stephen Cross (Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz), Captain Quentin Cox (Warsash Maritime Academy), Associate Professor Yuli Chen (Shanghai Maritime University) and Associate Professor Xiangming Zeng (Shanghai Maritime University) attended the session.

IMLA submitted two proposal documents “Revision of Maritime English Training Course (HTW 1-3-7)” and “Proposed Revised Composition of Validation Group Personnel (HTW 1-10-3)”, and one information document “Updating Information on MET Teaching Resources ePlatform (HTW 1-INF.5)”. The delegates presented the submitted documents in the plenary and attended the ensuing discussion in two working groups. The first proposal (HTW 1-3-7) was widely supported by relevant organizations presented at the plenary and the Sub-committee agreed that IMLA should consider undertaking this revision work. The other proposal (HTW 1-10-3) was well noted in the plenary and considered as a general principle in the working group. The Sub-committee also noted with appreciation the information provided by IMLA (HTW 1/INF.5) relating to the construction of the IMLA ePlatform, which aims to share and exchange MET teaching resources for the implementation of 2010 Manila Amendments to STCW Convention and Code.
