International Navigation Simulation Lecturer’s Conference 18 Held in USA
The 18th annual conference of International Navigation Simulation Lecturer’s Conference (INSLC) from Sept. 12 to Sept. 16, 2014 was held at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in USA. Maritime academics, training institutions, research institute, shipping companies covering a total of 59 delegates and 23 participates from 10 countries including USA, German, Sweden, South Africa, Philippines and China attended the conference.
Richard Gurnon, President of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Dr. Professor Jin Yongxing, Chairman of IMLA, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Knud Benedict, Chairman of INSLC made warm speeches at the ceremony.
Professor Craig Dalton, local conference Co-chair of INSLC 18 chaired the opening ceremony. Captain James of Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Mr. Rudy Leming, vice president of Labor Relations at Crowley Maritime Corporation delivered keynote speeches respectively on the subject of maritime education and training.
About 20 academic papers have been exchanged during this conference. Those papers refer to:
1. The bridge resource management training and assessment
2. The application of navigation simulator to the maritime trainee
3. The crew skills assessment and vocational training
4. Anti-piracy and security training
5. Simulator training and intelligence assessment
6. The latest research development on full mission simulator and future trend
During the conference, all participants visited the navigation simulator and marine engine simulator and other teaching equipment and facilities in Massachusetts Maritime Academy. A Participant from Wismar University in German demonstrated the fire-fighting training process which was carried out based on desktop simulator.
Professor HuShenping from Shanghai Maritime University, China and Professor Yin Yong from Dalian Maritime University, China were elected to the steering committee members. The conference highly praised the long term outstanding contribution made by the previous steering members Professor Fang Quangen and Professor Jin Yicheng.
The 19th annual conference of INSLC is to be held in autumn, 2016 at South Africa Maritime Training Academy (Cape Hope of South Africa). It will focus on how emulator can be keyed to different application levels of different types, and the base of designated training course plus simulator development in the process of teaching and training.
