MoU with BSMR Maritime University, Bangladesh

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Academic Cooperation was signed with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University of Bangladesh (BSMR) on 13 March 2014. BSMR is an incipient national maritime university with the potential to lead and coordinate maritime education, research and training in Bangladesh under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. The Agreement calls for collaboration in the areas of academic information exchange, faculty exchanges, development of joint research projects and publications, the potential for BSMR to fund selected faculty members to complete M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs at WMU, and the potential for Professional Development Courses to be offered by WMU in Bangladesh or elsewhere as agreed upon. 

The Agreement was signed by Rear Admiral A S M Abdul Baten, BSMR Vice Chancellor, and WMU President, Dr. Björn Kjerfve. The delegation from Bangladesh also included Zikrur Regja Khanam, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; Ferdous Zaman, Joint Secretary, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh; Professor Dr. Abul Hashem, Member, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, and Commodore K T Zaman, Registrar for BSMR. In addition to the discussions and signing of the MoU, there was an opportunity for the delegation to meet with current WMU students from Bangladesh.
