WMU Class of 2016 in China Graduates

 

On 25 and 26 September, graduation ceremonies were held in Shanghai and Dalian for the two graduating Classes with a total of 72 students. This brings the number of students graduating at the WMU two campuses to 820 over the past 11 years.

Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU, conferred the degrees on the graduates. She urged the graduating classes to continue to strive for excellence and drew their attention to World Maritime Day on 29 September with its theme - “Shipping is indispensable to the World”. She reminded them of the significant contribution the industry makes to world trade and to environmental protection. She told them that they were now well equipped to make a significant contribution to help their country, China, which had recently ratified the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, to implement its obligations and contribute to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

 

ITL Class of 2016 Graduation, Shanghai

The 2016 graduation ceremony of WMU’s MSc Programme in International Transport and Logistics (ITL) took place in Shanghai, China on 24 September. In total there were 26 graduates representing China, Greece, the Republic of Korea and Turkey.

In addition to Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU, in attendance were Professor Shuo Ma, Vice President (International) of WMU, Dr. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of the SMU Council, Professor Shi Xin, Vice President of SMU and several SMU faculty members involved in delivery of the ITL programme. Family members and friends of the graduates, a number of representatives of the nominating authorities, and the students of the ITL 2017 class were also in attendance. Ms. Zhou Liyang received the Chancellor's Medal for Academic Excellence and Mr. Kang Hyeonkuk and Mr. Yang Yongcheng received Best Research Paper awards.

The ITL programme commenced in 2005 and is offered in cooperation with Shanghai Maritime University. To date, 377 graduates have completed the ITL programme.

MSEM Class of 2016 Graduation, Dalian

The 2016 graduation ceremony of WMU’s MSc Programme in Maritime Safety and Environmental Management (MSEM) took place in Dalian, China on 25 September. Forty-six students graduated.

In addition to Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU, in attendance were Professor Shuo Ma, Vice President (International) of WMU and the Director of the MSEM programme, Dr. Sun Yuqing, President of DMU, Dr. Liu Zhengjiang, Vice President of DMU and many DMU faculty involved in delivery of the MSEM programme. Family members and friends of the graduates, a number of representatives of the nominating authorities, and the students of the MSEM 2017 class also were in attendance. Mr. Zhong Ziyang received the Chancellor’s Medal for Academic Excellence. Mr. Zhong Ziyang, Mr. Liu Tianshu and Mr. Lu Hongliangg received Best Research Paper awards.

The MSEM programme commenced in 2005 and is offered in cooperation with Dalian Maritime University. To date, 443 graduates have completed the MSEM programme.
