National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics (NCMEH) lecturer Dr Christopher Chin has beaten thousands of nominees to be named Australia’s Lecturer of the Year.

The award, now in its sixth year, is an initiative of UniJobs.com.au, and aims to reward the efforts of diligent academic staff that have helped enrich the lives of students and work colleagues.

More than 100,000 votes were cast online in 2012, making it the most popular award to date.

Dr Chin is no stranger to the Lecturer of the Year award, securing third place in last year’s rankings and second the year before.

“I am passionate about teaching and so it is wonderful to be acknowledged with this prestigious award,’’ Dr Chin said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to my students and colleagues for voting for me. I am truly humbled and grateful to be voted Lecturer of the Year for 2012.

“This award assists in highlighting the great work of AMC and the University of Tasmania.”

Dr Chin is a senior lecturer in mathematics and is also the first-year coordinator for the National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics.
