The UK's marine renewable energy (MRE) sector is rapidly expanding with a potential to bring a huge number of new jobs to the region. In continuing its support of the renewable industry, Warsash Maritime Academy is one of 10 partners involved in the EU-funded Building European Environmental & Maritime Skills (BEEMS) project. The project was selected under the European cross-border co-operation programme INTERREG IV A France (Channel) - England, and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (EDRF).

The work of the BEEMS project supports two key targets identified in the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, inclusive and sustainable growth.

Driven by the UK and French Governments' commitment to reduce carbon emissions, the MRE sector has seen unprecedented growth over recent years. The market is set to create thousands of new jobs and inject a significant boost to the regional economies of north-west France and the east and south coasts of England.

As a BEEMS partner, Warsash Maritime Academy is conducting a survey to establish the current skills gaps and future skills requirements for the workforce in the region to ensure our region's preparedness for future demands.
